Inspiration

I'm way into Project Runway right now. Somehow I managed to stop watching after Season 3 and then it fell off my radar. Now I'm making my way through Seasons 4-8 and it's actually really helping my creative process even though I'm not a fashion designer.

First, it's just nice to have it on in the background while I work on comics - I like having the company of other 'shut-ins' immersed in a creative project.

It's also really inspiring to hear Tim Gunn's advice. When I'm getting lost in a piece now, I invoke Tim's voice in my head saying, "Make it work! Go go go! Just FINISH it!"

I also find it helpful to see the traps that some of the designers fall into, like getting overly obsessed with details that no one will see (Daniel Franco), as well as the skills that help others succeed, like time management (Chloe Dao).

I'm Mad As Hell!!!

How frustrating would it be to be a a pissed-off dolphin? I'm sure a lot of them are, but their facial architecture makes them look like they are always smiling. As someone who's fascinated with faces and facial expressions, I really sympathize with their plight.

The same goes for the Mexican Walking Fish also pictured here. This creature is on the verge of extinction, and therefore has every reason to be hacked off. But the poor thing can only smile demurely and posture like it's on the verge of doing a joyous little dance.

"Go to Hell!"
"Eff Off!!!"

Tips for Men - Showcase Your Skills

Don't freak out! And don't rely on cheesy lines or cliches to impress your lady. What you need is a talent or a special skill like one of these:

1. Learn a musical instrument, preferably this one.

Contra-bass recorder
2. Give her something handmade. Don't worry about quality. If it looks like something a mental patient would make, this will suggest vulnerability and an aura of mystique.
Handmade crap.
3. Make one of these and ride it to her house, unannounced.
Hover outside her bedroom window until she notices you. Surprise!
Hi there.

Happy Monday and Happy April!

Don't you love it when people display their bizarre handicrafts on the web in the most deranged way possible?
