My good friend's 9 year old daughter really wants to read the Hunger Games. But my friend won't let her read it until she herself reads it because apparently it's disturbing. This presents a quandry for my friend because she really doesn't like some of the basic premises of the book, for example that it takes place in a post-apocalyptic United States that's been chopped up and recycled into smaller nation-state entities. So I was like, what's the big deal. When we were young we read the Little House on the Prairie books and those are post-apocalyptic too. If you're Native American. Which I'm not but still.

I had to read those too! LHP I mean, and there were some crazy stuff in there - like when Laura starts doing meth in the sod house because she has dad issues.
Wasn't that Little House?
