My sketchbook right now is a pad of lined paper. I like it because it's less intimidating. When I feel free to make a mess, that's when I'm the most creative. If my sketchbook is too fancy, I freeze. Here's a glimpse...

This really is a great show! You must go see it. Paul Ryan's work is so insanely good. To see his original hand drawn work up close is a rare treat.

A New Show and A Rerun...

I have a few pieces in this new show which opens tonight. Reception is 6:00-8:00 p.m. RSVP here.  This show features original hand-drawn work by Paul Ryan: a full 22 page issue of Batman: Gothic Knights (DC Comics)! I'm also excited to see original comic pages by many of my comical colleagues! 

And as for Reruns...

I've decided to rerun my comic spoof of The Wire, as I am working on the final ending. I can only hope that this will rectify the trauma and anxiety caused by my abrupt abandonment of this series at such a crucial point in the plot. So here it is again, from the beginning...

Here's a preview of my piece, Grusha - Woman with Horns (four limited edition prints), which will be in Space 242's upcoming show, Get Your Freak On! 

The show opens this Friday April 30th with a public viewing reception 6:00-8:00 p.m.

There will be a second opening reception Friday May 7th 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

I think this is going to be a great show - it's such a fun theme. Many of my uber-talented and freaky artist friends also have pieces in it. I'm excited to see the freakage!

Art Bonanza Weekend starts today!

I am very excited to have two posters in this show. I loved the idea of re-creating concert posters of 1990's rock bands. It was an interesting challenge. And tonight is the public preview! I am looking forward to seeing good friends there as well the 100+ posters.

Then on Sunday, December 6th I'll be selling my comics, prints, and other nifty gifties at stART at the Station, a holiday arts event featuring over 120 artists and crafters. I'm sharing a table with my uber-talented colleague and pal, Mr. Bret Herholz. I hope to see you there!

Rage Against the Machine...

Rough draft design idea for a poster for the musical group, Rage Against the Machine. This would only be a portion of the poster. I'm thinking of doing it as a small run of silkscreen prints.

This band has special meaning for me. My mother used to sing me their songs in a high falsetto, to lull me to sleep when I was an infant.

This is a photo I attacked with Photoshop. It's a Halloween costume from a few years back. I thought the plain white mask would be kind of minimalist and art-y with the blue wig. But it ended up looking super creepy. Fitting for the season I suppose.  :) 

The Dollface and Her Chicken

This is a screenprint of a comic panel from the 24 pages in 24-hours comic challenge I did in 2005. These characters, Dollface and Chicken, were a product of exhaustion. In fact, I think this was the last panel that I drew, at about hour 22. It makes me sleepy just to think about it.
