This really is a great show! You must go see it. Paul Ryan's work is so insanely good. To see his original hand drawn work up close is a rare treat.

A New Show and A Rerun...

I have a few pieces in this new show which opens tonight. Reception is 6:00-8:00 p.m. RSVP here.  This show features original hand-drawn work by Paul Ryan: a full 22 page issue of Batman: Gothic Knights (DC Comics)! I'm also excited to see original comic pages by many of my comical colleagues! 

And as for Reruns...

I've decided to rerun my comic spoof of The Wire, as I am working on the final ending. I can only hope that this will rectify the trauma and anxiety caused by my abrupt abandonment of this series at such a crucial point in the plot. So here it is again, from the beginning...

Paul - What to Wear - Monday

Powder blue turtleneck sweater. 

I'm taking some inspiration from Veronica's popular 'What to Wear' blog series to try out some new looks for my character, Paul. 

We're starting out slow. Today it's just a change in color from his usual off-white turtleneck sweater. I don't want to scare him. But stay tuned as we experiment with even more exciting fashion choices! And if there's something you think might look good on Paul, please let us know!

Someone sent this to me yesterday. You have to watch the whole thing to appreciate it. It's short. And it's pure genius.

Film Pick...Lila Says

I really liked this movie, although some aspects of it irked me. Overall though, I think it's interesting and worth seeing.

What's good:

1. It's perfectly cast with some really good performances, especially from main characters Lila (Vahina Giocante) and Chimo (Moa Khouas). The actors that play Chimo's three pals are also excellent.

2. It's an intriguing plot, and it's supposedly a true story by an unknown author. The manuscript was left on a publisher's doorstep, with the author only identifying himself as "Chimo."

Sixteen year old, white Lila moves to an Arab neighborhood in the French city of Marseilles. She forges a friendship with the shy and polite Chimo. They only ever meet in public, and seemingly by chance. Although Lila is clearly following Chimo around, as she consistently appears out of nowhere whenever he's alone and without his posse.

What makes these encounters interesting is Lila's shocking manner of speaking. She talks almost exclusively about sex. Chimo is completely thrown off by this, but also titillated, and hooked. Lila's motive for being so sexually provocative is a mystery. Is she a bored thrill-seeker with an overactive imagination? Is she a nymphomaniac? Does she have genuine feelings for Chimo? Or is she just plain nuts?

3. It's beautifully filmed and the setting is a neighborhood of magnificent, crumbling, architectural masterpieces.

What's bad:

1. Aspects of the ending either don't make sense or are just really stupid. I won't go into detail because it will spoil the plot.

2. Some of the final scenes are so poorly directed that it almost ruins the whole movie. It felt like they started filming before they really figured out how to make the ending work. Like maybe they were rushed for time and/or running out of money.

Iris, Peony, and Chives

Look what's happening in my flower garden! This Iris sprang out of nowhere. One day it was a little bud and then the next day, poof!

The peonies (my favorite) are getting ready for their debut...

And the chives are in full bloom!

Artcation Idea #1 - Art camp for adults

With summer on the horizon, I start thinking about ideas for my summer Artcation. This art camp for adults sounds pretty ideal. Problem? It exists only in my imagination...

Each camper is housed in their own spacious, contemporary barn-style structure, which has as a large studio and a small living area with a bed, bathroom, and kitchen...

Within your barn studio is a huge closet, stocked with every art supply you can think of.  Just imagine your favorite art store as your closet... 

The grounds are lush, quiet, and peaceful. If you need a break to clear your head, you can hike, swim, or a go for a lazy canoe ride... 

Your meals, coffee, and snacks are delivered to your studio at any time of day or night. Or, if you prefer company, you can dine in the mess hall... 

I actually did some research last year to see if something like this exists and couldn't find anything. Perhaps someone who really knows how to make these sorts of things spring to life can make it a reality. 

Anyone?
